UNIMA-USA is the U.S. branch of Union Internationale de la Marionnette, a puppetry network that is the world’s oldest theater organization. (This feels counterintuitive — because surely there were human beings before there were puppets — but let’s just live and let live. Or not live, really, if you’re a puppet. Maybe just don’t tell the puppets we wrote that.)

Anyway, UNIMA-USA gave an award to Great Arizona Puppet Theater’s Cinderella, and you can check it out through Sunday, January 25, at 302 West Latham Street. The production features ornate hand puppets, a coach, your basic glass slipper, rod-puppet mice, and more surprises. Showtime Thursday, January 1, is 10 a.m. Tickets are $7 and $10 at 602-262-2050. Get more info at www.azpuppets.org.

Wednesdays-Fridays, 10 a.m.; Saturdays, 10 a.m. & 2 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Dec. 31. Continues through Jan. 24, 2014
