Every popular trend comes back around at some point — bell bottoms (now disguised as “flare” pants), the HCG diet, and vinyl records, as well as geometric design, as evidenced by the “4SQUARE” exhibit on display through March 24 at Squeeze Gallery. The show features bold, colorful geometric prints from artists Grant Wiggins, Ryan Peter Miller, Bart Vargas, and Richard Garrison, the latter of whom creates color wheels based on circulars from big chain stores such as Target.

Garrison uses mathematical formulas to plot each advertised item onto a round grid and then matches the color of the item to its location on the circle. The process sounds complex, but what it boils down to is using a store’s own marketing data to poke fun at consumerism.

“My work involves systematic processes that reflect personal interactions with familiar elements of suburbia,” he says in his artist’s statement.“Colors unevenly sprawl from the center of the drawing, echoing the structure of suburban development while depicting an objective yet intimate encounter with banality.”

Mondays-Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, 12-6 p.m.; Thursdays, 12-9 p.m. Starts: Feb. 11. Continues through March 24, 2011
