Forget history, and you’re doomed to repeat it. Luckily, we have Everything is Terrible! rifling obscure and random VHS tapes to seek out the inept, the ridiculous, and the straight-up awful.
What started as a website in 2007 (EverythingIsTerrible.com) for a group of Chicago friends to share their gems from long forgotten VHS tapes (many of them chock-full with low production values and cheesy special effects) has grown into a mini-empire pumping out viral videos that are glimpses into the not-so-distant ‘80s and ‘90s. A typical Everything is Terrible! offering showcases found fare like a cat massage instructional video, small-town dance shows, and B-movies edited down to their essence.
They’ll be in person during their Quest for the Magick Crystal Tour to screen their latest full-length offering, 2Everything2Terrible: Tokyo Drift, and plenty of other schlocky treats at Madcap Theaters.
