In the summer, Old Town Scottsdale can be a ghost town. The snowbirds have flown the coop by June, tourists are in short supply, and even local residents eschew molten streets for the bliss of central air conditioning.
Twenty-two years ago, the city wised up and started luring locals out of their homes with free drinks and nibbles, tunes, and artists’ receptions to break the monotony of daily heat warnings. The result was the annual Summer Spectacular ArtWalk, a self-guided tour through Old Town’s arts district.
Highlights of this year’s event (besides complimentary ice-cold tea) include Tera Crisalida’s hot Brazilian jazz, pop vocals from Angela Leavitt, getaway-themed paintings at Wilde Meyer’s Colores Gallery, and a book signing by Scottsdale-based illustrator Sylvia Long at Duley-Jones, 7100 East Main Street.

Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $15,500 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
