A few weeks ago at the Arizona State Fair, we witnessed our first demolition derby. Our reaction? Uhhhh . . . what in the . . . ?
Needless to say, it was interesting in its redneck-friendliness, especially when folks went ape shit over the especially brutal-looking wallops of fast-moving metal. But for some reason, we didn’t hate it, and now we want moremoremore. We’ll get exactly that during the Fall Demolition Derby at Helzapoppin’ Rodeo Arena. Local artist/musician/derby competitor Corey Busboom – who participated in his first-ever derby during the aforementioned night at the State Fair – says the Helzapoppin’ arena will be especially fast because the grounds crew doesn’t wet down the dirt like they do at the Fairgrounds.
Following the smash-’em-up spectacular, Buckeye’s finest will parade around on mobility scooters, lawn mowers, and cotton pickers. Uhhhh . . . what in the . . . ?
