If Shakespeare had had a fashionable gay brother, gay Will might have reworked the soliloquy from As You Like It to read, “All the world’s a runway.” At least this week, all of Scottsdale will be one during the second annual Scottsdale Fashion Week, a less-ostentatious-by-design take on the Big Three Fashion Weeks in Milan, New York, and London. But “less ostentatious” doesn’t mean lack of ostentation, ’cause you won’t be able to swing a Kate Spade clutch near Scottsdale Fashion Square without taking out three or four supermodels. As for the super-serious, dark-sunglasses-and-Chanel-suit-wearin’, fashion-fan divas? You can bet they’ll be front and center to catch the 20 shows at the Luxury Pavilion.
SFW2 kicks off with the Luxury Pavilion Debut at 5 p.m. Thursday, followed by the Wearable ArtWalk from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Scottsdale Arts District, Main Street and Marshall Way. Friday highlights include the “Le Sauvage Primitif” show by Cochiti Pueblo native Virgil Ortiz, Mexico City designer Ricardo Covalin’s Apocalypto Fashion Show, and the SFW Designer of the Year Competition. The show’s “Grand Fashion Gala” centerpiece, titled “Main Event: Neiman-Marcus Fall Fashions + Resort Wear — Celebrating 100 Years,” starts at 8 p.m. Saturday.
