The Phoenix Coyotes are the Gilbert Gottfried of Arizona sports: You know who they are, but you forget they exist until they show up in something you’re watching. The team could be decent this year, but its Gottfried-like status has done it no favors. The team recently (and infamously) filed for bankruptcy, and there’s a realistic chance the franchise will be sold and moved to Canada after this season.
If you don’t want to miss what may be one of your last chances to see pro hockey in the desert, check out the Coyotes’ preseason opener against the Los Angeles Kings at Jobing.com Arena.

Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $17,250 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
