Though some NASCAR drivers embrace a squeaky-clean image, others have figured out that nice guys really do finish last.
Take top-ranked racer Carl Edwards, who gave a prized trophy to a disabled fan and raised dough for Mexican orphans. Dude stopped being Mr. Nice Guy when he purposefully rammed his car into competitor Brad Keselowski’s No. 12 Dodge last year at Atlanta Speedway. “Every person has to decide what code they want to live by and hopefully this explains mine,” he wrote on his Facebook page following the crash. Ouch.
Love him or hate him, Edwards is the man to beat in the NASCAR Chase for the Cup, which continues with the Kobalt Tools 500. Minnesota-based rock band Catchpenny will perform the national anthem, followed by a speedy semifinal matchup of drivers including Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon, and Edwards.
