As teenagers, most of us filled evenings of boredom and adolescent angst with ghost stories, slasher movies, and Ouija board Q&A sessions. Now, Chicago-based artist Corkey Sinks has gone and put a twist on these pubescent nail-biters with an exhibit crawling with creepy.
Through her vast use of mixed media, Sinks startles the senses with an exploration of modern manifestations of urban legend, superstition, and folklore in horror film and teen culture, providing a historic roadmap of terror and an opportunity to reconnect with the darker side of growing up. Wind your way through a gloomy corridor lined with unsettling video installations to discover a string of God’s eye made from black yarn as you see a banner that reads, “Light as a feather, stiff as a board,” on a neighboring wall.
Then put your friend’s underwear in the freezer. Just kidding.
