The genius of Oreos Double Stuf cream sandwich cookies is that they give people more of what they want. Austin post-punkers When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth take nearly the same approach with double the vocals, double the guitars, and double the drums.
George Dishner and Jesse Hodges ravage their vocal cords while Nate Cross and Marc Voorhees crush riffs to the manic percussion patterns of drummers Brandon Crowe and Daniel Francis Doyle. Only bassist Cory Plump stands alone, bringing turbulence-stirring, low-end strums to the mix. Touring behind its latest record Not Noiice, the band’s sonic deluge often threatens to recklessly spill over. However, they always end up expertly guiding the chunky noise like Pecos Bill wrangles a tornado. It’s as impressive as it is loud.
