The word “paradise” means different things to different people, but here’s our definition: a world without speed limits, stop signs, cops, speeding tickets, or other stupid-ass drivers. Believe it or not, this automotive Shangri-La actually exists at Firebird International Raceway, 20000 South Maricopa Road in Chandler, during “Run What Ya Brung” NHRA Street Legal Only Street Drags. The intermittent affair, which happens on Friday, January 4, and most Fridays, allows drivers to let their hair down and throttle up in a safe, supervised environment. Gates open at 6 p.m. Admission is $10, free for kids 12 and under; racers pay an additional $10. Call 602-268-0200.
Fridays, 6 p.m.; Fridays, 6 p.m.; Fridays, 6 p.m.; Sat., April 12, 6 p.m.; Fridays, 6 p.m.; Fridays, 6 p.m.; Sun., Sept. 7, 6 p.m.; Fridays, 6 p.m.; Fridays, 6 p.m. Starts: Jan. 4. Continues through Dec. 14, 2008
