When James Gulliver Hancock moved to Brooklyn, he took on a rather time-consuming project — drawing every building in New York.
At first, he describes his effort as an experiment in record-keeping; he draws what he sees on a regular basis. But as he continues, he writes that the city’s growing on him: “we’re
getting to know each other. Sometimes it still pops out and shows itself
as a cliche, as all new, I’m amazed I’m in this, living daily … With
this much density, it is sometimes overwhelming.”
The Australian illustrator’s a self-described anxious type who panics at the thought of not being able to draw everything in the world, at least once.
