Beyoncé will hold court at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show as the planet’s preeminent pop star. The tale of The Dreamettes, starry-eyed girls who start out as backup vocalists to a ’60s R&B star and grow into their own spotlight as The Dreams, is inspired by the real-life saga of The Supremes and Diana Ross. While the story is fictionalized, the songs of this hit musical and its associated productions have racked up very real Tony, Grammy, and Oscar accolades.
