Independent Journalism in Phoenix Needs You
We need to raise $15,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Brother Augustine III of the Covenant of Christ’s Flesh was once blessed with a vision of the true Heaven. To everyone’s horror, it included no allusions to the classical depictions of God’s Kingdom – not a single chaste angel floated about and no eternal weight of saintly glory rested upon one’s shoulders. Instead, there were boys (straight boys, to make it clear) passing around beer bongs, slapping each other’s asses, and shouting “Go, team!” Brother Augustine was excommunicated and, immediately thereafter, committed suicide.
Behold, though, Brother Gus’ spirit has returned in the form of playwright/director Guillermo Reyes, whose new play, Straight Boys Gone Wild, is about crazy heterosexual dudes engaging in a night of heavy drinking and obscenities.
