Last season, the Phoenix Suns managed to have a better year than anyone could have predicted, barely missing out on the playoffs. Their pre-season starts on Wednesday, October 8, versus Flamengo Basketball of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Brazil has a rich basketball history which includes the roundball branch of the Clube de Regatas do Flamengo under legendary coach Togo Renan Soares. Nowadays, the Flamengo squad is full of vets of international play who should pose a challenge for the Suns. Phoenix’s off-season has been pretty middling but the still-in-process signing of Zoran Dragic, younger brother of star point guard Goran Dragic, though, does give rise to the possibility of the Super Dragic Bros going Euroball buckwild, which would be fun to see against the speedy Brazilians.
The Phoenix Suns take on Flamengo Basketball at US Airways Arena, 201 East Jefferson Street, starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and up. For more information, visit www.suns.com.
