Just look at recent successes such as the mullet and the fanny pack, which have helped pave the way for various new “so lame it’s cool” trends. Tyley Ross and Peter Kiesewalter, co-founders of NYC’s East Village Opera Company, have taken the traditionally not-cool opera concept and incorporated a rock-band setup and a string quartet, creating a totally cool sound that retains the original operatic language.
