Screw Shakespeare and his depiction of witches as old, ugly hags brewing potions from newt eyes and frog’s toes. These days, witches come in all shapes and sizes, from Wicked’s perky blond enchantress Glinda to the teenage hotties of the CW’s The Secret Circle.
Grab your pointy hat and come out of the broom closet for the Arizona Witches Ball, firing at the Crowne Plaza. The evening includes music from Of the Earth and Celtic band Traveler, belly dancing, a costume contest, and a sit-down dinner of wool of bat and tongue of dog (just kidding, it’s actually chicken marsala, veggies, and cheesecake).
Tarot readers will be on hand to predict your future, and Kate Morrow will lead guests in Halloween rituals to honor the dead. Both real-life witches and regular folk are welcome — just be sure to pronounce Samhain correctly or risk being turned into a toad.

Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $15,500 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
