Evildoers

There’s a song in George Reinblatt’s Evil Dead: The Musical called “What the Fuck Was That?” that captures perfectly the sort of post-camp fun that this show offers. The tune, about a zombie attack on a bunch of college kids trapped in a backwoods cabin, does precisely what one wants a musical spoof of an already satirical movie franchise (in this case, Sam Raimi’s culty Evil Dead series of deliberately silly slasher pics) to do: Make us laugh at the very notion that we like this stuff to begin with.

But we do. And we can’t help but love what director Damon Dering has done with a new, local production of Evil Dead: The Musical.
