Last year, the Arizona Diamondbacks surprised most baseball minds when they locked up the NL West and fell a smidge short of a second World Series appearance. Because of that triumphant 2007, the current squad is shocking no one with its early success in ’08.
However, when it comes to D-Backs fans, we’ll employ that old adage that “the more things change, the more they stay the same.” It doesn’t seem to matter how well the D-Backs perform, apparently, because Chase Field routinely has more empty seats than U.S. Airways Center has seats. Seriously, people. It was a bit ridiculous when the Colorado Rockies showed up earlier this month for the first time since last October’s NLCS knockout, yet per-game attendance only hovered around 29,000. That makes Phoenix about as good a sports town as lame Miami or even-lamer Atlanta.
So here’s a blunt challenge for you fair-weather fools: Just freaking show up, for God’s sake. Let’s start with the games against the Houston Astros, shall we?
