As Arrested Development character Gob Bluth found out, no one really respects a grown man who claims to be a magician – especially if he totally sucks at magic. No amount of tossed pennies or frozen pigeons can change that. For street cred, you have to back up your passion by pulling off those tricks and ditching up-the-sleeve nonsense. Thankfully, while Bluth is performing his “illusions, Michael,” real-life magicians are picking up the slack and serving up stunning shows.

Carnival of Illusion blends sleight-of-hand tricks, kooky music, hypnotism, and dance as hosts Sarlot and Eyed mesmerize the senses and bewilder logic in an intimate, vaudevillian setting. Stay home if you’re the quiet type, though. The duo is known for getting audience participation for this clean, comical, old-world-style performance that’s entertaining for everyone from young children to older adults.

Saturdays, 6 & 8:30 p.m.; Sat., Dec. 22. Starts: Nov. 10. Continues through Dec. 1, 2012
