One new idea for every day in 2011. We’re talking big, small, local, international, in action and on the drawing board. Here’s today’s — what’s yours?
Jennifer Maria Harris is anti fear.
The San Francisco-based visual artist is collecting postcards, Post-its, and scraps of paper from around the country with a simple message: “Have No Fear.” She then turns the notes into magnets and mails batches to participants who stick them around the street and in galleries across the world.
The result, she writes, is Fear Not, a community-based art project that she hopes will address daily fear and hesitation, however big or small:
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $17,250 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
“The messages tell people not to be afraid, but I don’t think the power behind the message is in the words. It’s in the reminder that we can choose to see those words in the world around us. It’s in the reminder that we can then choose to pass those words on.”
Fear Not currently includes a library of notes and a collection of audible ant-fear anecdotes and messages.
