This has not been a good year for the Arizona Cardinals. They bet their season on quarterback Kevin Kolb and new defensive coordinator Ray Horton. Kolb proceeded to play at a below-average level before a turf-toe injury knocked him out of action (his backup, John “Red” Skelton, was not exactly a stellar replacement), and the best thing that can be said about Horton’s defense is that it’s not quite as execrable as the offense.

Obviously, the Cards won’t be playing for a playoff berth when the NFC West-leading San Francisco 49ers come to University of Phoenix Stadium, 1 Cardinals Drive in Glendale, on Sunday, December 11, but there will still be a lot at stake. A win over San Francisco this weekend won’t solve the Cards’ personnel issues, but it would at least give their fans a reason to hope that things will get better.
