The Cat in the Hat may be an enduring children’s story, but the plot has mixed messages. The cat is a total jerk, shows up uninvited, barges into a house, and makes a mess of things. He’s also guilty of kidnapping; just how long have Thing 1 and Thing 2 been hiding out in that crate? Would the protagonists have risked the same fate if mom hadn’t come home in time? There are tons of unanswered questions, but beneath his clumsiness The Cat seems like a solid pal. Childsplay brings this fabulous feline to life with an ongoing production that’ll entertain audiences of all ages and benefit the Arizona Animal Welfare League.
