Animated films aren’t limited to childish portrayals of fairy tales and stories of living toys or a cute clownfish abducted from his ocean home. Emotionally charged, aesthetically diverse and occasionally raw, good animation unhinges the doors of the mind and lets the inmates out to mingle.

Titles include Belgian flick Flatlife by Jonas Geirnaert and The Tale of How by South Africa’s The Blackheart Gang.
