The movie theater is a great place to kill a few summer afternoon hours while catching up on some cinematic pop culture.
But if you’re looking for a well-rounded experience to accompany your viewing, these five spots will have you fixed in no time.
1. The Dive-In: Swim up and catch a flick at several water parks around town this summer. Several water parks and resort hotels (including The Biltmore and The Arizona Grand) are offering the option to float in the pool while you watch a film.
Where to go: Wet’n’Wild Water Park, 4243 W. Pinnacle Peak, Glendale. Friday Nights Through July 29, 8pm
2. The Drive-In:
Drives-In movies are quickly becoming a thing of the past, but there are still a few spots in the Valley to enjoy an open-air viewing.

Where to go: West Wind Scottsdale 6, 8101 E McKellips, Scottsdale or West Wind Glendale 9, 5650 N 55th Ave., Glendale.
3. Backyard Movie Screens: Rent an inflatable screen and show a film at home, in the park, anywhere.
Where to go: Funflicks.com to set up a reservation.
4. Movies and Booze: No need to sneak the alcohol into the theater, at a few local film spots, you can order a beer or a mixed drink at the bar before catching a flick.
Where to go: FilmBar, 815 N, 2nd St, Phoenix. 602-595-9187
5. Highly-Caffeinated Cinema
On Monday nights this summer the baristas at Cartel are showing episodes of Twin Peaks and serving fresh pies made at the downtown location. An iced toddy and a slice of pie is a great alternative to soda and popcorn.
Where to go: Cartel Coffee Lab, 225 W University, Suite 101, Tempe. 480-225-3899.
