Pete Rose is an asshole. Ask anyone who’s ever met the dude. But the fact that Charlie Hustle – Major League Baseball’s all-time hits leader and a 17-time All-Star – isn’t in the Hall of Fame is the work of more-insidious buttholes. Yeah, Rose bet on games, including his own team, the Cincinnati Reds, while he was still playing/managing. And, yeah, that’s bad, but compared to the slimy, steroid-rippled creatures who’ve been allowed to hijack baseball’s record books in the last decade, what Rose did seems kinda bush-league, and the punishment seems like swatting a mosquito with a pile driver.

Rose’s legend lives on at events like the Phoenix Sports Card Show, where he’ll sign memorabilia for $69 or $99 a pop, depending on the item. Also signing are Minnesota Vikings Hall of Famer Carl Eller ($29/item) and young Arizona Diamondbacks Gerardo Parra ($15/item) and Clay Zavada ($10/item).
