It’s no challenge to romanticize France and its inhabitants. Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris glorifies the country’s capital as a mecca for creativity, renowned chef Eric Ripert flaunts his classically-trained French cooking skills (and sexy accent) on Top Chef , and we’re not at all embarrassed about our recent drooling over Givenchy’s latest haute couture designs.

And we’re not alone in our Francophilia. During the 2012 Women in French Conference, fellow fans will turn up for 35 panels and one round table discussion on the role and influence of Francophone women in literature, science, culture, and the arts from the Middle Ages to modern times. Keynote speaker Martine Reid kicks off the con at 12:15 p.m. Friday, February 24, discussing the impact that French authors’ genders have had on literary reception.
