Most recently rocked by Susan Boyle and traditionally welcomed by Bert & Ernie fans, the unibrow is a look reserved mainly for the eccentric and unkempt. But if you’re going to have a unibrow, you might as well own the unibrow, which is exactly what Frida Kahlo did in her self-portraits and overall career.

The Mexican painter was a fearless and passionate woman who shocked her peers with romantic dalliances, uncompromising political stances, and a distinctive artistic style. Her paintings, often of herself, combined surrealism with the traditional and religious dynamics of Mexican culture. Local theater company Teatro Bravo is presenting the biographical play Frida, which incorporates vibrant music and dancing as well as imaginative masks and puppets to capture Kahlo’s imagination and mind.
