Troubling times are afoot at Westgate City Center. Business is down, foreclosure is looming and, worst of all, both the Phoenix Coyotes and Arizona Cardinals might not play their upcoming seasons at the sporting facilities next door to the Glendale shopping and nightlife destination.

Needless to say, Westgate’s restaurateurs and retailers will probably welcome with open arms the thousands of excited soccer fans (and their cash) headed for the adjacent University of Phoenix Stadium, 1 Cardinals Drive in Glendale, this weekend.

More than 35,000 fans turned out the last time fútbol was featured at the football facility, and a comparable amount should be in the house during the Club América versus Monarcas Morelia matchup on Sunday, July 10. Both teams have enthusiastic followings in their home nation of Mexico, which should result in plenty of footie fanatics filling the stadium.

And believe us, they’ve got plenty of reason to be enthused, as both south-of-the-border squads are some of the best in the country.
