The duo named Dresden Dolls is slightly more than a bit unconventional, by which me mean to say, “Duh.” Any band that labels its oeuvre “Brechtian punk cabaret” and names itself after the site of one of the most horrible war crimes of all time, well, it’s probably not gonna be touring with Ashley Tisdale anytime soon. But the Dolls offer more than shock value. Though theatrical and dramatic, frontwoman Amanda Palmer’s songwriting abilities meld simple, repetitive melodies with high-energy, grandiose climaxes, leaving you feeling heavy and satisfied, with a twisted smile on your face.
