The Grand Canyon is cool and all, but for those of us who don’t have time or scrilla for the four-hour jaunt up north, we’d love to see the wondrous gorge photographically depicted in a new light. Like, please. No more South Rim shots at sunset.
“Charting the Canyon: Photographs by Mark Klett and Byron Wolfe” — an exhibit that continues through July 12 at Phoenix Art Museum — is a surprisingly awesome, non-clichéd photographic examination of the national park. The show’s two exhibiting artists, Klett and Wolfe, did take some typical imprints of the Canyon – how could you not? – but a majority of the survey-like color photographs in the show are different takes on the Colorado River-carved wonder, and even include some modern digital manipulations.
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: March 22. Continues through Sept. 6, 2009
