You could use a lot of descriptors for fashion industry heavy hitters such as Marc Jacobs and Marchesa. But, “humble”? That adjective probably would lose out to “outlandish,” “innovative,” and “over-the-top.” But for Arizona-based fashion designer Averien Turner, humble is the only place an aspiring brand can begin.

Balvina Films’ new documentary First Steps to Success chronicles the work that Turner has put into his label, Humble Clothing Company, showing, as he puts it, “my passion, grind, where I came from, where I’m at now, and where I’m going…” He hopes the film will serve as a launching pad for his designs (which currently include men’s and women’s T-shirts, letterman jackets, dresses, hoodies, and sweaters) to reach a wider audience, and later lead to expanding offerings.

Comedian Jay Mac will emcee the duds doc’s première at Pollack Tempe Cinemas.
