The furthest planet from the sun, Neptune, is one-year old today, and we want to make sure it’s a memorable birthday for our gassy neighbor to the very far north — 4.4 billion km from Earth, to be exact.
Known for its 13 moons, intense windstorms, and icy planetary rigs, Neptune’s actually been around since the mid-1800s. But because it takes 164.79 Earth years to equal one Neptunian year, July 12 marks the first birthday for the mysterious planet.
To help celebrate the solar system’s toddler’s birthday, we decided to come up with a list of Neptune-themed ideas for the ultimate planetary party.

5) Inhale Helium
Neptune’s atmosphere is made up of 19 percent helium, so an obvious way to celebrate its infancy is by sucking the helium out of balloons and talking in a funny, high-pitched voice like a Neptunian alien.
4) Ice Luge Shots
It’s freezing on Neptune, the average temperature is something like -200 Celsius. Cool the surface of your lips, and a shot of Jack, with an ice luge to mimic Neptune’s intense coldness.
3) Mork and Mindy Costume Party
While Mork wasn’t from Neptune, the character of Kalnik is. Dress up like characters from Mork and Mindy for an ironic Neptune birthday.

It’s self-explanatory. The Neptunes are a great party group.
1) Pluto Marathon
Up until 2006, Pluto was the furthest planet from the sun. But whatever reason, Pluto was demoted from planet to cartoon puppy … at least, we think that’s what happened.
