If the only fairies you know are Tinkerbell and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy‘s Fab Five, brace yourself. Not all fairies are gentle, kind, or snappy dressers. Case in point: Sleeping Beauty‘s Maleficent, who casts evil spells and looks like a reject from RuPaul’s Drag Race. Hopefully, the frolicking fae in attendance at Fireland Faerie Nation’s free Spring Fling Faerie Frolic will eschew the cow horns and black-and-purple muumuu in favor of the more visually appealing glitter wings and tiaras.
This is the first in a series of small gatherings taking place in 2012 while the folks behind Phoenix’s annual Faerie Festival fine tune the main event for next year. Goblins, pixies, and other woodland folk are invited to don their best fairy finery and enjoy an informal outdoor picnic with music and games while the weather is still enchanting.
