From the lazy shopper’s point of view, it’s the ideal holiday gift. It’s suitable for everyone on your list — except sullen teenagers, whose agony over its lameness will be entertaining. You don’t have to brave crowds at the mall, it gives you something to do after the other presents have been opened, and you can even walk off the Christmas ham. Plus, you don’t have to wrap it, so you can spin the gift as a “green” choice.
The present in question is an excursion to ZooLights, the annual, animal-themed holiday light show. The display has itself gone (comparatively) green this year, employing more energy-efficient LED lights in its 400-plus light sculptures. If saving the Earth doesn’t move you, there’s always Stingray Bay. For a separate fee, visitors can pet stingrays, small sharks, and, this year, horseshoe crabs. As we all know, nothing says “Christmas” like horseshoe crabs.
