With the lingering instability that comes from being an NHL-owned team now behind them, the Phoenix Coyotes are undoubtedly enjoying putting their ownership woes to rest and settling in for a while. That chilling sense that at any moment the Zamboni might be shipped off to a new town had haunted the hallways of Glendale’s Jobing.com Arena, 9400 West Maryland Avenue, ever since previous owner Jerry Moyes filed the Yotes for bankruptcy back in ’09. Now, with the team on a 15-year lockdown, coach Dave Tippett will no doubt hunker down and continue to cultivate a franchise that — anchored by goalie Mike Smith and captain Shane Doan — has more than enough firepower to claw their way into the playoffs this year and in years to come.

The Coyotes close out their preseason against division rivals the San Jose Sharks at 9400 West Maryland Avenue at 7 p.m. Friday, September 27. Tickets start at $18. Visit www.coyotes.nhl.com or call 623-772-3200 for details.
