Unless you count fake sports like horseshoes, slow-pitch softball is the most egalitarian of sports. In most other sports, success belongs to the people who have the most God-given talent. In the realm of slow-pitch, however, there’s a place on the field for everybody from highly trained athletes to completely uncoordinated slobs.
Providing a competitive outlet for adults of all ability levels is the motivating force behind this weekend’s Saguaro Cup Sports Festival. The Cup — which boasts the self-proclaimed title of “the premier Gay Softball Tournament in the Southwest” — will feature at least 87 teams across four men’s and three women’s divisions competing at the Desert West, Rose Mofford, Pagago, and Victory Lane Sports Complexes. The event kicks off with a registration party at 7 p.m. on Friday.
