Smash cut to 1950s St. Louis, when slums and segregation loomed large and the recently-passed Housing Act of 1949 put federal mandates on inner city housing in hopes of improving quality of life and sparking urban renewal. Documentary The Pruitt-Igoe Myth explores this transitional period that resulted in mass suburbanization, while focusing on the conception, and ultimate implosion, of one particular 33-building public housing complex: Pruitt-Igoe.
