So far, this year’s version of the Arizona Diamondbacks has been as scattered as Joaquin Phoenix on a promotional tour. The team started their first week hot by sweeping their division rival San Francisco Giants and stealing two of three from the Padres in San Diego.
Unfortunately, the D-Backs followed that start with an injury-plagued string of bad games that featured an embarrassing home series loss to the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates. With the NL West looking like the most competitive division in baseball, the boys in burnt sienna can ill-afford such inconsistency.
The Diamondbacks will have to get their play sorted out in a hurry for this week’s home series against the defending champion St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals—even minus Albert Pujols—have not shown any signs of a World Series hangover.
