Shot in the dark here: Hula dancing is trickier than it looks. Not buying it? Consider the last time you took a stab at that deviously complex Hula hoop. If you’re like most modestly proportioned humans, it probably made a wobbly mess outta you. Sure, the comparison isn’t apples to apples, but the two activities do seem to share the same origin. Point being, only an anatomically gifted few are ever fortunate enough to master anything Hula related.
The Polynesian Paradise Dancers are some of the few. On Saturday, July 26, the touring troupe of Polynesian women in grass skirts, will be on hand at Space 55, 636 East Pierce Street, to present Postcards From Paradise, a re-creation of the “timeless Hawaiian vacation experience.: The multimedia performance takes audiences on a dreamy island getaway — circa 1959 — only without the sunburn.
