Keep Phoenix New Times Free
We’re aiming to raise $10,000 by April 26. Your support ensures New Times can continue watching out for you and our community. No paywall. Always accessible. Daily online and weekly in print.
Here’s the thing about hiking: You’re either a lone nut like us or a people person. For the latter, hiking doesn’t get much better than the City of Scottsdale’s free Preserve Connections Hiking Tours of the northeast Valley’s still largely restricted McDowell Sonoran Preserve. Or simpler. Or cheaper. After registering, just show up for the 8 a.m. check-in at Granite Reef Senior Center. From there, you’ll be bused to the Preserve and then taken on a guided trek by Certified Conservancy Stewards, whose insights are much more elegant than their titles. The trek is a four-miler to Taliesin Overlook.
