Randy Zucker‘s project is a pretty perfect fit for our first of 365 Ideas for 2011 — for one, we share the same timeline.
Zucker’s a local artist who’s collecting pennies for one year. She writes,
If I had a penny for every time someone said, “I like your work,” I’d be rich!! Beginning January 1, 2011, I’ll be asking everyone who makes such comments to drop a penny in my Penny Jar (and if they don’t, I’ll drop one in myself). After the year ends, I’ll create a piece of art (not sure what yet) that incorporates the pennies into the work.
You can see her digital work here and in the MonOrchid Artist Collective, 214 E Roosevelt in Phoenix. Zucker’s collecting pennies mailed or dropped off to the Collective (your best bet to catch her is on First and Third Friday nights). In the meantime, she’ll be keeping us updated on her blog and, of course, keeping count.
