Downtown Phoenix might be more of a concrete jungle than a land of green pastures, but when Michael Patterson shows off his paintings at Trunk Space this month and next, the urban setting gets infused with some Irish spirit. That’s because the artist, who will be showing 15 of his pieces, used his recent experience working on farms in Ireland as his inspiration for the show. One of his Irish landscape paintings depicts a spot on the country’s southwest coast called Smuggler’s Cove, where there’s a secret house built into the side of a hill with only a doorway and chimney still intact. It’s the kind of scene that might make you feel like you’ve been transported over the pond.
