For many of us the budget’s tight this time of year. Still reeling from our holiday hangovers, we lock down our pocketbooks, put our credit cards on an aggressive diet and some of us even begin to make good on our New Year’s resolutions.

Well, this weekend should just about spoil all of that. Not only is this Friday Valentine’s Day, a holiday specifically designed by subversive corporations to combat the economy’s annual February funk, but the Arizona Renaissance Festival is back in action. So if you and your spouse had been planning on tightening up the tourniquet on that hemorrhaging mess of a checking account, but you simply can’t resist herculean turkey legs, medieval margaritas, and jousting reenactments, best saddle up, ye wenches and serfs, because the pleasure feast awaits.

Gates open at 10 a.m. Sunday, February 16. Festival grounds are located at 12601 East Highway 60, Gold Canyon. Tickets for adults are $21 online or $22 at the festival’s box office. Visit www.royalfaires.com/arizona or call 520-463-2600 for details.

Saturdays, Sundays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Mon., Feb. 17, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Starts: Feb. 8. Continues through March 30, 2014

Will you step up to support New Times this year?

At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $15,500 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
