In high school, we always suspected our art teachers were unsuccessful journeymen and women who had resorted to teaching to pay the rent. Maybe university art teachers are in it for the bennies, too, but there is one key difference: Art faculty must have real artistic chops.
Those talents are on display at “Blind Jury,” a show featuring the works of several Arizona State University art faculty. Mary Hood, Adriene Jenik, Muriel Magenta, Kathryn Maxwell, Ellen Murray, Jerry Schutte, Forrest Solis, Dr. Mary Stokrocki, Jim White, and others have filled Night Gallery’s 3,800 square feet with works of printmaking, telecommunications media, water media, painting, drawing, sculpture and “new genre” video, computer art, and web technology. Themes run the gamut, including silence, time and space, identity and experience, the intersection of technology and human desire, and art education and cultural exchange.
Tuesdays-Sundays, 6-9 p.m. Starts: Feb. 8. Continues through Feb. 27, 2011
