Pop quiz: Name three opera stars other than The Three Tenors. If you’re like most of us, you’re struggling to remember the names of that blind guy and the chick from Repo: The Genetic Opera who was married to Andrew Lloyd Webber. Meanwhile, you can probably name the America’s Got Talent finalists or all five Backstreet Boys without a hitch.
If opera’s celebs all looked like Russian baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Generations X and Y might show a little more interest in the genre. Once dubbed “the Elvis of Opera” by Elle magazine, Hvorostovsky is a well-muscled hunk with smoldering brown eyes and wavy locks. He’s also a vocal tour de force who nabbed top honors in the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition.
