Lauren Henschen is an actress, musician, and local creative force who describes her latest project, Super Stereo, as “a super fun, dance-inducing future-pop band.”
When we asked her what she’s been up to lately, she responded, “When I’m not pumping up the jams, I can often be found mowing my lawn,
drinking eight glasses of water a day, or taking too long to make a move in a
game of Mastermind.”
Clever girl. Just see what she has to say when we asked her about what she’s wearing.
What are you wearing right now?
Grey cutoff jean shorts with paint from about three or four apartments/houses
from the Phoenix Metro area on them; a pleasantly-worn yellow KZZP
softball team T-shirt that used to be my dad’s; blue Havaianas sandals
(with the little Brazil flag so I can feel like I play soccer); and a
grey ASU baseball cap turned backwards (because I am apparently way too
cool to wear it frontwards).
What is the last item of clothing you bought?
A Milwaukee
Brewers T-shirt. The Brewers have what I believe to be the
best-designed professional sports logo. Plus, pretty much any time you
wear an item of clothing with a sports logo from Wisconsin, Illinois,
New York, New England or Ohio, someone’s going to yell “Go BREWERS!” (or
the equivalent) at you. Any conversation that starts with an
exclamation of affirmation is worth having.
What is the item of clothing you most covet at the moment?
I
mostly wish I could choose one outfit to be my signature look and that I
could wear it every day like a uniform. Then again, I guess that’s
what jail is like … nevermind.
Give us a childhood memory of you and clothes:
Some of my fondest memories involve dressing up in waterproof jumpsuits and either:
A. Having an all-day SuperSoaker war with my brother or
B.
Starting my own neighborhood bug extermination service using (once
again) a SuperSoaker and a lethal combination of household products from
under the sink or
C. Pretending I was a Ghostbuster
Name five items every woman should have in her closet:
Well, five items that are definitely in my closet at all times are:
— three pairs of black low-top Converse All-Stars: one new pair for dressy
occasions, one decent enough for every day life, one super beat for
mowing the lawn
— an array of Western shirts most likely made for a
small boy because no real cowboy with the chops to make it in the
wilderness is as small as I am
— worn-out jeans with paint all over them that I should probably get rid of but will instead turn into shorts
— more
baseball caps than it is probably appropriate for a girl to own,
especially without the presence of some sort of over-the-door rack you’d
see in a “Decorate Your Dorm Room” back-to-school ad.
— a California Raisin Halloween costume
Name an item of clothing that’s best when it’s vintage:
Western belt…I wear mine pretty much every day of my life.
Name an item of clothing you should NEVER buy used:
Prescription eye glasses. Rarely accurate.
What is your one piece of fashion advice for Phoenix?
Shorts in Summer. Layers in Winter. You know what I’m talking about.
