L.A. four-piece HEALTH sounds more suited to the hipster-tastic Rogue Bar than Trunk Space, where the band will be posting up tonight. We felt this especially after we listened to Health’s hit “Crimewave.” During certain movements of the dance-happy song, which is driven by palpitating, drum-circle-like beats, something screams at you. Synths? Ill-tuned electric guitars? A warped sample of a seriously peeved drill sergeant with some funked-up vocal effects? Then we did some more reading and discovered that “Crimewave” was a remixing choice for Crystal Castles, and everything made sense. It also jibes in our mind that the Los Angeles band boasts several releases on Lovepump United Records, which also represents artists like the electro-punk Genghis Tron and those “embracing the hate” bitches who front Montreal-based AIDS Wolf.
