Visit Phoenix Art Museum’s Orme Lewis Gallery and soak up “Sacred Word and Image: Five World Religions,” an exhibition divided into themes such as sacred spaces, language as transmission, otherworldly visions and miraculous events, symbols of power, and divine beauty.
With more than 50 artifacts – including pieces of imagery, manuscripts, textiles, prayer rugs, shrines, crosses, altarpieces, and sacred written word — the show explores the connections between and history of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism over the past 1500 years. The collection is on view through March 25.
Wednesdays-Sundays, 9 a.m. Starts: Jan. 4. Continues through March 25, 2012
