UK public art organization UP Projects is unveiling The Secret Garden Project, its latest commissioned, site-specific work in a few of London’s public parks.
The curated series includes floating gardens, picnic spaces, and birdhouse “cities” (pictured) left, which UP hopes will bring attention to London’s lesser-known public spaces and support biodiversity within the city.
The birdhouses, titled “Spontaneous City in the Tree of Heaven” are by London Fieldworks.
The project is curated by UP Projects Founding Director Emma Underhill, and project manager Rose Lejeune with support from assistant curator Laura Harford.
“UP Projects believes in challenging perceptions of what public art can be,” they write. “Operating as if a gallery without walls, they are inspired by the complexities of the public realm to create a programme of artists’ commissions, projects, strategies and multi-disciplinary events for a broad public audience.”
